- Pepe Serna, Actor/Producer/Director: Mexican-American actor Pepe Serna has appeared in more than 100 feature films and 300 television shows, but is most recognized for his gritty support performances in a variety of motion pictures, including Scarface (1983) as Al Pacino's ill-fated cocaine partner, as well as the western Silverado (1985) with Kevin Costner, the crime yarn The Rookie (1990) starring Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen, and the drama American Me (1992) starring Edward James Olmos. Known for a career spanning over 50 years with iconic roles in films like Scarface and The Jerk, Serna’s impact on the screen is now honored in a new documentary, Pepe Serna: Life is Art. The documentary celebrates Serna’s remarkable journey, exploring his contributions to cinema and his vibrant, creative spirit that has inspired generations.
- Robert Rodriguez, Producer/Financer: Robert Rodriguez is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of experience in film production and media finance. - Tito Catacora, Film Producer / Director: Tito Catacora, a celebrated Peruvian filmmaker, has made significant contributions to cinema with a focus on culturally resonant stories. In 2018, he produced Eternity, directed by his nephew Óscar Catacora, which gained international acclaim as Peru's submission to both the Goya and Oscars Academy Awards in 2019 (and in 2025 with Yana-Wara).
- His 2021 documentary feature, Pakucha, earned accolades at various national and international film festivals, showcasing his storytelling prowess. In 2023, he co-directed the fiction feature Yana-Wara with Óscar Catacora, followed by his 2024 presentation of The Legend of the Last Inca, solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in Peruvian cinema. His latest film Los indomables [The Legend of the Last Inca], was release in Augusto of 2024.
- Fernando Allende, Film producer / Director: For over five decades, Fernando Allende has been a leading figure in entertainment across the U.S. and Latin America, achieving widespread success as an actor, producer, director, entertainer, and recording artist. Born in Mexico City to a multicultural family (Mexican father, Cuban mother, with grandparents of Spanish and Puerto Rican descent), Allende began his career at 15 in Maria, starring alongside Taryn Power. He has since become a top box office draw and household name, especially known for his roles in Spanish-language television, popular music, and film.
Allende’s career encompasses 20 films, where he earned 13 awards, and his work has spanned more than 2,000 hours of television, including lead roles in 13 telenovelas and 20 U.S. TV series. In Hollywood, he broke new ground in The Streets of Los Angeles with Joanne Woodward, Flamingo Road with Morgan Fairchild, and the CBS miniseries Master of the Game, which helped to challenge stereotypes and bolster his U.S. career. Other notable appearances include Miami Vice, Murder, She Wrote, and The Alamo, showcasing his lasting impact on international television and film.
In addition to his achievements on screen, Allende is a talented painter, recently honored as Mexico’s “21st Century Dynamic Art Master” for his visual art. In 2013, the Mexican government recognized him as the first-ever Ambassador in History and Perpetuity to all Mariachi musicians. Known for his philanthropy around the world, Allende has dedicated 50 years of his life to charitable causes. His vast contributions across multiple disciplines continue to enrich both the entertainment industry and the communities he serves.

Her latest release, The Cursed Moon, marks her debut into children’s horror, adding a thrilling new dimension to her acclaimed work.
Angela has also authored junior novelizations of beloved Disney/Pixar films Coco and Encanto, bringing the magic of these stories to young readers worldwide. In this presentation, Angela will share her journey as an author, her inspirations drawn from her Mexican American heritage, and her dedication to representing Latinx stories in children’s literature.

B.- A Conversation with Mexican Filmmaker Pancho Rodriguez (Spanish)
Pancho Rodríguez is a Mexican writer, actor, producer, and director with over 30 years of experience across diverse platforms, including circus, cabaret, theater, literature, animation, and film. He studied film at CIEC (1990-1991) and the Department of Television and Video at UDG (1993-1994). He began his career writing scripts for videohomes (1998-2000) and directed two 16mm feature films: Balas Salvajes (1999) and Ulises y la Puerta de los Titanes (2000). Rodríguez furthered his education by attending screenwriting seminars with Syd Field (1999) and Guillermo Arriaga (2003).
In 2003, he co-founded KARMA FILMS, focusing on advertising. His most notable works include Día de Muertos and Llamando a un Ángel. In 2020, he won IMCINE’s grant for fiction scriptwriting with Alba. His latest feature, Abracadáver, a black comedy, was released in October 2024 on Hulu in North America.
In 2003, he co-founded KARMA FILMS, focusing on advertising. His most notable works include Día de Muertos and Llamando a un Ángel. In 2020, he won IMCINE’s grant for fiction scriptwriting with Alba. Manuel Arturo José Cuevas Martínez Sr, a Mexican fashion designer best known for the garments he created for prominent rock and roll and country music acts was born on April 23, 1933, in Coalcomán de Vázquez Pallares in Mexico as the fifth of twelve children of Esperanza Martínez (1911) and José Guadalupe Cuevas (1901). He attended the University of Guadalajara and majored in psychology.
Manuel first learned how to sew in 1945 from his older brother, Adolfo, in Coalcoman, Michoacan, Mexico. He stated, "I started making prom dresses when I was 13. You know that grandmothers and aunts made the prom dresses for all the kids. But I started making prom dresses that were pretty expensive, and all the girls said, 'Mommy I don't want you to make my prom dress. I want Manuel to make my prom dress!' I continued making prom dresses and in one year I made 77 dresses, then the next year I made 110, and from then on I hired people to help me sew. I made a fortune."

- Albert Bender, Lawyer/Journalist: Bender is a Cherokee historian, writer, and attorney dedicated to preserving and advocating for Native American cultural and legal rights. As Chairperson of the Indigenous Peoples Coalition, he brings a vital historical lens to discussions around Indigenous narratives and representation, particularly within Tennessee’s media landscape. Bender is deeply involved in issues of Indigenous sovereignty, land restoration, and the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), often serving as a consulting attorney on these subjects. He is currently working on a legal treatise about Native American sovereignty and authoring a book on U.S. war crimes against the Maya people during the Guatemalan civil war. Through his work,
- Bender remains a prominent voice for justice and accurate representation of Indigenous histories and struggles.
- Ted Parks, Ph.D, Lipscomb University:: Parks is an Associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of English and Modern Languages, bringing a rich blend of cultural and scholarly expertise to his work. With extensive teaching experience at all levels of Spanish at Lipscomb University, Parks joined the faculty in 2004 after teaching at Pepperdine University. His academic background includes a Bachelor's degree from Lipscomb, a Master's in Bible from Harding University Graduate School of Religion, and both a Master's and Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature from the University of Texas at Austin. Parks’ scholarly interests are rooted in Spanish Golden Age literature and Hispanic cinema, areas in which he bridges linguistic and cultural insights to deepen students' understanding of the Spanish-speaking world. His bilingual and bicultural perspective allows him to connect students with the profound literary and cinematic traditions of Spain and Latin America. Each year, he also leads Lipscomb's Maymester in Oviedo, a language immersion program in northern Spain that provides students with direct cultural and linguistic engagement. Parks’ work reflects his commitment to fostering a scholarly appreciation for the richness of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures.
- John Partipilo, Photo/Video Journalist: John is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning photojournalist and fine art photographer of Native American Indigenous heritage, with a distinguished career spanning over 40 years. A two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee, Partipilo has been recognized globally, including numerous honors from the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) and a Best of Photojournalism award for his powerful essay on gang life in Tennessee. His Native American heritage deeply informs his approach to photography, allowing him to connect with his subjects and capture authentic, humanizing images that resonate with viewers across cultures. As a storyteller at heart, Partipilo draws from a rich cultural understanding that emphasizes respect, resilience, and tradition, lending depth and perspective to his work. This background allows him to build trust with his subjects, resulting in poignant, impactful images that highlight Indigenous perspectives within the broader narrative of American photojournalism. Partipilo’s work continues to be a compelling voice in both documentary and fine art photography, capturing the essence of human experiences with an unmatched sense of authenticity and empathy.
- Marisa Munoz, Casting Director: Marisa is a seasoned Casting Director, Talent Manager, Consultant, and Creator. She is the founder and CEO of M Casting Worldwide, a women-owned, minority-owned company with offices in Los Angeles and Nashville, serving clients globally for over 20 years. Munoz and her team are dedicated to diversity and equality in casting, with expertise spanning commercials, print campaigns, beauty and fashion, music videos, and film.
