Community Festival in Honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month

Artists line up included award winning Danza Azteca Coatlicue, singers, Elena la Nena del Mariachi, Yelina Valeria "La Barbie de la Cumbia" and Angel Alfaro "El Angel de la Musica Ranchera" among others.
The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce(NAHCC) continued its recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month with the a very well attended 4th Annual Family and Community Festival last Sunday, September 23rd from 12 noon to 4 pm.
The community from all backgrounds was invited to NAHCC's 4th Annual Family & Community Festival presented in partnership with Hispanic chamber member and Community Partner, Rivergate Mall. Featuring music and dance by award winning troupe Danza Azteca Coatlicue, talented singers Elena la Nena del Mariachi, Yelina Valeria "La Barbie de la Cumbia", Angel Alfaro "El Angel de la Musica Ranchera", Diana Osiris, Angela Martinez, Ohbryan Salsa, Ruben Dario, Virggi, Brianna Gatica; folkloric dancer Claudia Sánchez-Miller, children storytelling by Rachel Rodriguez with "Songs for my Little Amigos" and visual artist Jose Vera. Featured exhibitors included: VolState Community College, Toyos Clinic, The New Immigrant Manual, MNPD El Protector, Nashville Soccer Club, and Latino artists teaching Art4kids lead by Isabella Lopez, Mike Quinones, and Gil Veda; face painting by Bobo The Clown, a giant bounce house and more!
Another highlight of the event was its live news coverage and radio interviews on site by celebrity guests hosts Vero Salcedo, with Nashville Noticias; Eliud Trevino, with Radio Melodias and El Crucero Spanish Newspaper; Anel Flores and Claudio Vazquez, with StereoNashville and La Invencible; and Raquel "La Chama" with Activa 1240 and La Ranchera 880.
Every year, since 2005, the NAHCC undertakes the largest most comprehensive recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month in our market, from September 15 through October 15.
NAHCC's month long program calendar highlights include content on the most recent numbers on Hispanic population growth, purchasing power and economic impact, business networking and roundtable sessions, and a Hispanic art in the community and mentorship initiative, with students from Simon Youth Academies, currently on display at South Nashville's Woodbine neighborhood community space Flatrock Coffee, Tea and More...
*Hispanic Heritage Month is a nation-wide celebration of the many contributions to our nation, by those who trace their roots to Spanish speaking countries. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on Sept. 15 and ending on Oct. 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
