Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as best he can, the same cause—honor to him, less only than to him, who braves, for the common good, the storms of heaven and the storms of battle.” -- Abraham Lincoln

On behalf of our NAHCC members, and Hispanic small businesses in our community we appreciate the intentional approach to an issue which has persisted for way too long, and also to have been invited to the table, as part of the Mayor's Minority Business Advisory Council, to help assess the needs and proposed the necessary changes.
We are confident that the Equal Business Opportunity ordinance will be instrumental in fostering equity for small business and Hispanic entrepreneurship efforts, while strengthening the bridges that will ultimately build a better city for all to enjoy.

A Special Salute To All Our Veterans
November 11 is a day to honor all veterans of the U.S. armed forces and those killed in battle.

Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month in 1918. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who served in all American wars. The day honors living military veterans with parades and speeches across the nation. A national ceremony takes place at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

63% of Tennessee voters overwhelmingly support bipartisan Senate immigration bill
New statewide poll shows public backs elected officials who vote for Senate "Gang of Eight" bill. NAHCC President & CEO Yuri Cunza read the results of the poll conducted across 29 states, at a press conference. Representatives from the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation, Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. of Tennessee, the U.S Chamber of Commerce, the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and others all spoke briefly in support of the bill. Read more HERE and HERE.
“We believe that the results of the Tennessee poll should be another indication to our elected officials in Washington D.C. that their constituents want and are ready for a real and lasting solution to fix our broken immigration system,” said Yuri Cunza, president and CEO of the NAHCC. “This is not the work of a few, but the work of many organizations in the Nashville area and throughout Tennessee who are working to find a sensible and workable solution to the business issue of immigration reform.” -Photo by Mario Ramos

Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Urges
Members to Take Action: Call on Congress to Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform
Applauds Tennesseans Business and Community Leadership on the issue
The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Middle Tennessee's longest-running, most influential Hispanic business membership association, urges members to take action and call on Congress to pass a Comprehensive Immigration Reform package.
As a leading voice for Hispanic businesses, the NAHCC commends the leadership in our state for recognizing that immigration reform is an important economic imperative. The NAHCC commends the leadership of Tennesseans for Immigration Reform in support of bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform.
There are an estimated 11 million undocumented workers currently in the U.S. Without fear of deportation or prosecution, these individuals, if authorized to work or start a business, can help boost our American economy. More importantly, comprehensive immigration reform promises an end to the underground U.S. labor market in undocumented immigrants and will allow U.S. businesses to safely and reliably meet their labor demands.
The Latino community is united in wanting to fix our nation’s broken immigration policies. With 38 percent of Hispanics in the U.S. being foreign-born, this is an issue that impacts us, our families, and our neighbors.
“Comprehensive immigration reform is long overdue as it compromises the economic growth potential and prosperity of our nation if not addressed in an expeditious matter. And it is good for business, as it facilitates a pathway for compliance and new opportunities for immigrant workers who are filling a critical gap in the U.S. workforce” says Yuri Cunza, NAHCC President and CEO.
By presenting a unified front with a single voice, business, civic and community leaders from across Tennessee can play a critical role in our national debate as we take the necessary steps to resolve this issue.
"As the chair of the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, I support the growing movement and voices for immigration reform. Let’s continue working together towards that goal" said Mario Ramos, NAHCC chairman.
The NAHCC is committed to promoting the economic development of our region and to continue fostering the intrinsic leadership potential of Hispanic entrepreneurs in Tennessee. Hispanic owned businesses are the fastest growing population of American business enterprises and are at the forefront of our nation's economic growth. Hispanic communities have an entrepreneurial spirit and lead the nation in small business start ups, presenting a potential source for future innovation, and job creation. CLICK HERE FOR MORE....

Breakfast with the Attorneys: Preserving your family’s wealth. Everyone is working hard to create wealth, but not enough people are working on how they are going to keep the wealth they create. There are many ways that the family wealth can be taken away from the family, especially after a death, from a divorce, and by creditors. Families need to create plans and take advantage of the laws that allow them to keep their wealth and prevent “outsiders” from taking it away. You are invited to attend this free legal briefing on Tuesday July 17 at 7:30 AM by David Heller, attorney and member of DHPM, PC-Attorneys at Law, a Nashville Hispanic Chamber of Commerce member.

NAHCC and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Join Forces to Bring Generation First Degree to Hispanic Students in Nashville
New partnership aims to place a college degree in every Latino household in the area.
Nashville, Tennessee.- The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce announced a strategic partnership agreement with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) to foster the next generation of Hispanics with a college degree and improve educational outcomes among Hispanic students. Under the partnership, the two organizations will seek to increase access to scholarships for top Hispanic undergraduates and raise awareness among these young talented leaders of the potential impact they can have in the world.
The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, supports economic and workforce
development initiatives as well as training opportunities for entrepreneurs and young Hispanics in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is the nation's leading Hispanic scholarship organization, awarding 4,000 to 5,000 scholarships annually, the majority of which go to students who are the first in their family to attend college.
The announcement was made at the recent NAHCC's annual membership meeting, "I was impressed by the turnout of so many Latino leaders, and moved by their commitment to further the educational attainment of Nashville area Latinos for benefit of their overall community. The partnership recently formed with the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber is an important step in bringing Generation First Degree to Nashville, and through this partnership, place a college degree in every Latino household in the area." Frank D. Alvarez, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, President & CEO.
Under the NAHCC and HSF partnership, scholarships will be awarded to Hispanic college students based on academic achievement and leadership experience, and recipients will have the opportunity to participate through the year in leadership development programs created by the NAHCC.
"Our partnership with HSF is a great opportunity for members of Nashville's vibrant Hispanic business community to become a contributing force in the process of helping increase the number of Hispanic students attending colleges and universities in Tennessee, by strengthening the educational resources available for students to achieve their dreams" said Yuri Cunza, NAHCC President and CEO.
The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce places a particular focus on attracting and fostering the leadership of individuals who share a common Hispanic heritage background. According to the most recent U.S Census data more than 10 percent of Nashville population is Hispanic. The NAHCC leadership finds it compatible with the organization's mission to work on ensuring all children have access to an excellent education.

Memorial Day, A Time To Remember
May 31, 2010
Dear Members & Friends,
Memorial Day is the time to reconnect with the history and values of our nation by honoring those who gave their lives for the freedoms and ideals we all care for and enjoy. More than a million American service members, men and women of valor, have died in the wars and conflicts fought since the first colonial soldiers took up arms in 1775 to fight for independence.
Representing all ethnic backgrounds, each person who died at war was a loved one to family and friends. Each was a loss to our community and nation.
Today, we must remember those that are not longer with us, our family members, neighbors, and friends who have offered the ultimate sacrifice.
Today let us remember with gratitude and pride all those who served to protect our country, our freedom and the ideals that, despite our origin, unify us as a nation.....'One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all'.
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty." -John Fitzgerald Kennedy (May 29, 1917 - Nov. 22, 1963) 35th President of the United States.
