NAHCC Kicks-Off Hispanic Heritage Month with Special Programs, new partnerships and call for business &
community awards nominations
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - Sunday, September 15, 2013 --The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month with special announcements of new partnerships and programs, discussion panels, roundtables, art, music, and networking events.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a nation-wide celebration of the many contributions to our nation, by those who trace their roots to Spanish speaking countries. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
Highlights of this year's local Hispanic Heritage Month celebration include the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Heritage Panels going on display in Conservation Hall, which is located on the grounds of the Tennessee Residence.
Tennessee's First Lady Crissy Haslam selected the NAHCC's Heritage Panels to be featured in Conservation Hall as a first time recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Tennessee Residence.
The Heritage Panels were coordinated by the NAHCC through the Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School for the 2010 Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. The vibrant and lively paintings by the 3rd Grade art classes were first unveiled by Tennessee's previous Governor Phil Bredesen and First Lady Andrea Conte at The Tennessee State Museum during the Chamber's 6th Annual Hispanic Month Celebration and Business Awards.
To close the month-long festivities the NAHCC will host its 9th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration and Business and Community Excellence Awards on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at the offices of WALLER on the 27th floor of the Nashville City Center in Nashville. The event will include, a reception with special guest speakers, live music performance, and culinary sampling of the top 10 foods the Americas gave to the world.
During Hispanic Heritage Month the NAHCC recognizes the professional, civic, cultural and business contributions of members & non-members in our community. To nominate someone who has demonstrated commitment and leadership to the advancement of our organization, the Hispanic community, and city, email Loraine Segovia-Paz: nominations@nashvillehispanicchamber.com
Belmont is hosting the NAHCC's official kick-off for Hispanic Heritage Month next Thursday September 19, 2013 at McWhorter Hall on Belmont University campus. The program includes a Proclamation by Nashville Mayor Karl Dean followed by a brief presentation of relevant Hispanic Heritage Month programs and new partnerships. A reception will follow. The media is invited to attend this event starting at 5:30 PM.
"Join us to for the 9th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration program hosted by the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This year we have arranged over 20 events for you to enjoy. Let the Celebrations begin" said Mario Ramos, NAHCC Chairman.
