Nashville Hispanic Chamber of Commerce kicks-off Hispanic Heritage Month*
with special programs, Hispanic Business leaders’ roundtable, Family and Community Fest,
call for Business & Community Excellence Awards nominations

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE–The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NAHCC) will mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month with the announcement of key programs and events as part of its month-long business, arts, culture and education calendar. With and earlier kick-off ceremony at 7:30 am at Belmont University , members of the NAHCC board directors representing wide range of Hispanic own businesses will take part of the organization's signature LIDERES: Hispanic Professional, Business and Entrepreneur Leaders roundtable.
NAHCC's month long program calendar highlights include content on the most recent numbers on Hispanic population growth, purchasing power and economic impact, a Hispanic art in the community a mentorship initiative, with students from Simon Youth Academies, and networking events and strategic partnerships will be announced.
Every year, since 2005, the NAHCC undertakes the largest most comprehensive recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month in our market, from September 15 through October 15.
On Sunday 23rd, members of the community are welcome to our 4th Annual Family & Community Festival in partnership with NAHCC member and Community Partner, Rivergate Mall. With music and dance by award winning troupe Danza Azteca Coatlicue, and talented singers Elena la Nena del Mariachi, Yelina Valeria "La Barbie de la Cumbia", Angel Alfaro "El Angel de la Musica Ranchera", Angela Martinez, Ohbryan Salsa, and folkloric dancer Claudia Sánchez-Miller and children storytelling by Rachel Rodriguez. Featured exhibitors include: Digital tech tools for children, #MLS2Nashville -bringing soccer to Music City, Belmont's Hispanic Student Association, NAHCC's Latinas In Action (LIA), and Latino artists teaching Art4kids lead by Mike Quinones, Gil Veda, and John Yandall, with face painting by Bobo The Clown, a giant bounce house and more! Live TV and radio interviews on site by Vero Salcedo, Eliud Trevino and others, with special guest artists, community leaders and more.
Belmont University will host the NAHCC's early kick-off for Hispanic Heritage Month today, Friday, September 14, with a breakfast at 7:30am at the Janet Ayers Academic Center. The program includes a Proclamation recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month issued by Nashville Mayor David Briley (who has been invited to participate as guest speaker), and include Belmont University, Business, Civic, Community and NAHCC leaders, followed by a brief presentation of key Hispanic Heritage Month programs, and a business roundtable until 9 am.
To close the month-long festivities, on Monday October 15, the NAHCC will host its 14th Excellence in Business and Community Awards, an annual recognition of the Hispanic entrepreneurship spirit and how it impacts our local and state economy. The ceremony also recognizes Corporate and Community partners who make the work of the chamber and it mission possible. The event featuring guest speakers, awards, live music, and culinary sampling of the top 14 foods the Americas gave to the world, will be hosted at the Waller Conference Center on the 27th floor of the Nashville City Center in Nashville.
*Hispanic Heritage Month is a nation-wide celebration of the many contributions to our nation, by those who trace their roots to Spanish speaking countries. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on Sept. 15 and ending on Oct. 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

During Hispanic Heritage Month the NAHCC recognizes the professional, civic, cultural and business contributions of members & non-members who have demonstrated commitment and leadership to the advancement of our organization, the Hispanic community, and city.
