Hispanic Chamber, Vice-Mayor Briley, Recognize Hispanic Artists, Cultural Contributions and Heritage
Vice Mayor David Briley presented a special Proclamation for Hispanic Heritage Month In Memory of Louis "el Oso" Carrillo and His Contributions to the Art in our Local Community
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - September 17, 2015 - The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NAHCC) is proud to announce a special presentation honoring Hispanic Art, Cultural Contributions and Heritage, and a dedication highlighting the work of the late Louis (el Oso) Carrillo among other visual artists today Thu, Sept 17 at the Tennessee Art League Gallery on 5th Ave. of the Arts from 4 to 6 pm.
Mr. Carrillo came from California many years ago to be based in Thompson Station with his wife Victoria to seriously devote his time to his art. Vice-Mayor, David Briley will present a proclamation honoringNational Hispanic Heritage Month and Carillo's contributions.
This year the NAHCC is placing particular focus on our area'sHispanic Art and Cultural contributions and heritage with many Hispanic artists being highlighted during the month including some very special ones who helped weave the fabric of their art into our community and who have had their works recognized worldwide while calling the Nashville area their home. Jorge Mendoza, originally from Bolivia, came to the US in 1989 and now lives in Nashville and currently serves on the board of Tennessee Arts League. Chilean-born Pedro P. Silva who gave us our very beloved "Mosaic Dragon" within the Fannie Mae Dees Park, and visual artist/music composer Gil Veda who in addition to having his art work portray many prominent Tennessee figures, was the first Hispanic performer to play at the Grand Ol' Opry. Our heritage truly runs deep. In addition, works from Sharon Gómez, Daisy Jimenez, Billy Martinez, Inés Negri, Zoilita Mojica, Megan Kelley, Mike Quiñones Gonzalez, and the legendary 'Rhinestone Rembrandt' designer to the stars MANUEL, will also be part of the NAHCC program via partnerships through the month.
Next Sunday, Sept 20th, the NAHCC will host a visual art project in partnership with RiverGate Mall during their Hispanic heritage festival next to engage children in participating to create the next series of the NAHCC's Hispanic Heritage Art Panels.
In 2013 Tennessee's First Lady Crissy Haslam selected the NAHCC's Heritage Panels to be featured in Conservation Hall as a first time recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Tennessee Residence.

The vibrant and lively paintings by the 3rd Grade art classes were first unveiled by Tennessee's previous Governor Phil Bredesen and First Lady Andrea Conte at The Tennessee State Museum during the Chamber's 6th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration and Business Awards.
